What if it's more than facebook status?

"God is good!"

Another facebook status of a friend of mine says "Click on this link if you love Jesus"

What if there's more to Christianity than facebook status or stickers at the back of our cars?

What if the God of the Universe, actually comes down and literally brings the dead back to life, walks on water, makes the blind see, and sets prisoners free?

Oh wait, He actually did that.

What is this gospel that we preach and believe in?  Is it news to tell people, hey i am going to heaven, and hey i'm a good person or is it a gospel that operates on something beyond facebook status?

It's the news to the lost, to those whose pillows have been soaked day in and day out with tears, its news to the tired, to the hungry - its the news that says, there really is somebody who cares for you.  It's the news that tells you, no matter what the world tells you, you are worth something, and that you have a purpose in this world, and that you were created for more that worrying about your retirement, your 401K, it's news that tell you that your worth is more than what the television tells you, or what the public labeled you to be.  It tells you who you are, really who you are, its news that sets you free, and lets you sing another song, it tells you you are loved, you were specially designed for something mind boggling.

This is the good news - that no matter who you are, what you have or have not done, that you are worth something, you just have to believe that Big J actually died for your sins already.  No big hoopla.  Just believe.  That's the good news.

I look out my window, in my walk as  a Christian, i still have to remind myself of this constantly.  I live in a world where it constantly tells me that my worth is based on a lot of things i do - my education, my bank account, my credit score, my skin clarity, my hair smoothness, my weight, the number of facebook greetings i have when it is my birthday... A constant scoring system that never seem to end.  So to have someone tell me that they love me, just the way i am, without me lifting a finger, is new.  And this is not the gospel of laziness, i'm talking about grace.  You mean with a credit score of 550 i still get to be loved?  Why yes.

And this love, this unmerited favor redefines me.  It makes me want to tell other people about this because really, the beatles have it right, all we need is love.  Real love.  Not hollywood love.  Not conditional love.  The type of love i'm talking about is something so alien in concept, someone had to take on human form just to tell us what this is all about.  He had to give up his life, so that we would know what real love is.

There's more to this love than a facebook status.
